The project
The Allianz Canteen project involved the complete renovation of the dining area, its related storage spaces, and the parking garage within Allianz’s main headquarters in Trieste.
The demolition of part of the company parking facility and the strip-out of a large warehouse area were carried out using remote-controlled robotic equipment with hydraulic clamps, as well as large diamond-blade wall-sawing machines.
For this building, we constructed a monolithic reinforced concrete slab at varying levels, allowing the canteen area to benefit from both external access and outward views. In addition, the double-height dining area required structural reinforcement on the garden-facing façade, achieved through circular-section steel profiles with a diameter of 800 mm inserted between the reinforced concrete columns.
The space was divided into technical areas for staff use — including the kitchen, storage areas, food preparation zones, and staff changing rooms — alongside spaces dedicated to users, such as the dining hall, outdoor terrace, and bar area.
Finally, the finishing works included both fixed and movable furnishings. For the fixed elements, wall cladding and ceilings were created using custom-designed Fantoni Topakustik acoustic panels; flooring was completed in ceramic, while part of the food display area walls were finished in black Venetian stucco. The main façade features continuous glazing systems with glass panels reaching a height of 6 metres.
For the movable furnishings, custom lighting elements inspired by “clouds” and dedicated light-diffusing fabrics were created, together with larch wood partitions and benches designed for dining areas.
