The facility was inaugurated in 1991 and has a seating capacity of more than 32,000 fully covered seats. The stadium was built through a joint venture with other local consortium companies on behalf of Italposte, which at the time acted as concessionaire for the Municipality of Trieste.
In the following years, additional works were completed involving a series of spaces and facilities beneath the stands, now housing sports club headquarters, offices, gyms, and indoor training areas.
