The project
The contract involved the construction of a new middle school, cafeteria, and surrounding landscaped outdoor areas in the municipality of Nimis, within a wider educational complex including an auditorium, gymnasium, and primary school.
The project forms part of a broader programme of renovation, reuse, and functional upgrading of the existing complex, representing its natural extension within the site.
The new building includes four classrooms, two multifunctional spaces dedicated to shared activities, and a large central circulation area that also serves as a social, recreational, and educational space.
As a natural extension of the building’s north façade, a cafeteria with related service areas was also constructed, serving both middle school and primary school students.
All teaching spaces within the new building were designed to be modular, easily reconfigurable, and adaptable to different educational contexts — flexible environments supporting advanced teaching and learning methods.
In addition to its architectural quality and the high standard of technologies and materials used, the school is distinguished by its strong focus on environmental sustainability and bioclimatic architecture. The project was developed to create a building that is environmentally responsible both in construction and operation, while ensuring optimal indoor comfort and user wellbeing.
The entire structure is built using X-Lam load-bearing perimeter and partition walls. The floor slabs and roof are also made of X-Lam panels, supported by laminated timber beams integrated within the structural thickness and connected to the walls through open steel profiles.
